The commands in this post must be run while the VHD file is closed. I think these commands are all available in Vista but I am not sure and I do not have a vista machine available for testing. I am not certain of the changes from earlier versions of the OS. These instructions will be identical for Windows 7. I ran this on a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 machine.
